Uniting for the Environment: JCI Vizag Steel City and AU Pharma College Promote UNSD Goals

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored program that aims to develop student volunteers' personality and character through community service. NSS Week is celebrated every year in India to encourage young people to engage in social work and promote the spirit of service.

As part of NSS Week, the AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences invited Jc Leela Rani Alla, President of JCI Vizag Steel City, as the chief guest to the valedictory program of the National Service Scheme. The event was organized to distribute awards to the winners of the recently conducted NSS events and to promote sustainable development goals (SDGs) through a tree plantation drive.

The event kicked off with a talk on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), delivered by Jc Leela Rani Alla. The talk highlighted the importance of achieving the UNSDGs and the role of students in promoting sustainability. Prof. Y Rajendra Prasad, the Principal of AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in his speech, stressed the need for collective action to tackle environmental challenges and emphasized the importance of tree plantation drives in mitigating climate change. Ms. P Sailaja, NSS Coordinator, then explained how NSS activities were aligned with the UNSDGs and how students could participate in community service activities to contribute to a sustainable future.

Following the speeches, the NSS team, along with the JCI Vizag Steel City and AU Pharma College volunteers, planted saplings in the college premises. The event was a massive success, with over 50 saplings planted in just a few hours. The drive not only helped the volunteers contribute to environmental conservation but also enabled them to learn about the importance of sustainability.

At the end of the event, awards were distributed to the winners of the recently conducted NSS events, who had excelled in various community service activities. Jc Leela Rani Alla congratulated the winners and urged them to continue their social work and contribute to the betterment of society.

In conclusion, the event was a perfect example of how students can come together and promote sustainable development through community service. Tree plantation drives not only help combat climate change but also instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment among students. JCI Vizag Steel City, Andhra University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and NSS have set an excellent example of how collective action can bring about positive change in society.
